Howdy Partner!

As many of you know Claire changed preschools this year.  She had a difficult couple of weeks, but really seems to have settled in and is making lots of new friends.  We are really please with the curriculum and structure of her new school.  Here are a few pics from our first Kidworks' event: the Western-Style Family Potluck!

4th of July: Part II

We spent the evening of the 4th and Brian's mom's house.  The girls had fun playing with their cousin Jacob.  Claire worked through her fear of fireworks and actually held a sparkler.  Audrey Mae tasted watermelon for the first time--delicious!

Conversations with Claire

Claire: "Mama, are you doing the dishes?"

Me: "Yes.  When you get bigger you will be able to help me with the dishes."

Claire: "Yeah!  I'll get bigger and bigger and bigger and then my head will hit the ceiling!"

Claire: "I'm going to China!"

Me:  "Why are you going to China?"

Claire:  "Because they have camels there."

As I am getting dinner on the table Claire says:  "Mama, you are a good snack helper!"

We've been working really hard on having Claire brush her teeth.  We tell her she has to brush out all the sugar bugs.  One morning when Brian got her up she got a very strange look on her face, reached in her mouth, and pulled out a tiny piece of fuzz.  She got this joyous, excited look on her face, held out the fuzz to Brian and said, "Look Dada!  It's a sugar bug!!  I found it!"

Claire and Audrey Mae

Way too much time has passed since my last post and the girls are growing up so fast!  Audrey Mae will be 11 months old in two days.  Shes crawling like a champ and her strawberry blonde hair is becoming quite curly!  (Hmmm...wonder where she gets that?!)

Claire is a little firecracker, as always.  She is beginning to say the funniest things, some of which I a really MUST write down.  She has this strange obsession with matching.  All of her tops and bottoms have to match or she will have a mini-breakdown.  The worst is when she gets upset because the color of her panties doesn't match her socks, shirt, or pants. 

Here are some Claireisms:

"Mama, you're my best friend."

"Mama, you are the old Grandma and I'm the Princess Frostine!"  (characters from Candyland)

"Mama, I'm Princess Pea, Mae is Red, Daddy is Super Why, and you are Pig!"  (Characters, from a show she likes, "Superwhy."  Pig is the only non-human character of the bunch.)

"Mama, you are a good helper!"

Claire was a very good sport about the whole event.  Brian and I were worried that she might be upset by the crowd of people or by seeing us at school.  Obviously she had NO problem being the center of attention.  Now, if we could only get her to teach us the words to all of the Thanksgiving songs they sang!

Cell Phone Etiquette

We capped off our 4th of July weekend in Bakersfield with breakfast at The Village Grill.  (We actually ate breakfast there twice in three days--YUM!!)  We caught up with Grandma BB, Nana, Aunt Jenny, Auntie D, and Cousin Jacob.  As you can see, Jacob and Claire spent the meal texting each other.

 

 

Night at the Museum

One of the highlights of our weekend was the trip we took to CALM.  CALM (California Living Museum) is a zoo and garden dedicated to showcasing and preserving native plants and animals of California.  If you ever find yourself in Bakersfield and it isn't 900 degrees, it's a fantastic family outing.

Claire got to visit with some bears.   As you can see from the pic, she was not happy being forced to stand in front of their habitat.  (Stephen Colbert would be so proud.)

She was much happier trying to stick her fingers in the deer enclosure (despite being told not to) and looking for raccoons.  Miss C solidified her place in The Colbert Nation by proudly posing with the local eagles.  They even had a couple of bald eagles, but we somehow managed to not get a picture of them.  As usual, Audrey Mae hung out in the sling, blissfully unaware of anything but her Mama's giant boobs.
